The Thirty Nine Steps is a classic acton adventure novel about a man names Richard Hannay who is on the run from the police, after a man has been murdered in his apartment after unveiling a great secret. Hannay is in impending danger. He must not only outrun the Police, but also those that murdered the man in his apartment before it's too late.
Arabian Nights - A famous collection of Persian, Indian, and Arabian folktales. Supposedly, the legendary Scheherazade told these stories to her husband the sultan, a different tale every night for 1,001 days; therefore, the collection is sometimes called The Thousand and One Nights. The Arabian Nights includes the stories of familiar characters such as Aladdin and Ali Baba.

Connivance - Willingness to allow or be secretly involved in an immoral or illegal act. - Example: "this infringement of the law had taken place with the connivance of officials"
Contrivance - The use of skill to create or bring about something, especially with a consequent effect of artificiality. Example: "the requirements of the system, by happy chance and some contrivance, can be summed up in an acronym"
Or A device, especially in literary or artistic composition, which gives a sense of artificiality. - Example "the often tiresome contrivances of historical fiction"
Culvert - A tunnel carrying a stream or open drain under a road or railway.
Parapet - A low protective wall along the edge of a roof, bridge, or balcony. Or,a protective wall or earth defence along the top of a trench or other place of concealment for troops.
Interloper - A person who becomes involved in a place or situation where they are not wanted or are considered not to belong.
Sultry - Oppressively hot and close or moist; sweltering: Example - a sultry day. Or characterised by or arousing passion: Example - sultry eyes.
Edify -Instruct or improve (someone) morally or intellectually. - Example "Rachel had edified their childhood with frequent readings from Belloc"
Imbecile - A stupid person.
Gainsay - Speak against or oppose (someone). - Example - "none could gainsay her"
Guileless - Devoid of guile; innocent and without deception.
